charcoal

We were presented with a workshop where we were given a chance to work with charcoal, this is a media I am no where near familiar with and tend to avoid due to the fact I am not used to using it and find it messy and unrefined along with the fact I cannot shade with it very well. 

However I was pleasantly surprised, especially with the reduction piece ( the first one, we had to cover the whole piece with charcoal and use a putty rubber to take away and work on light use to build up our pieces) However the addition piece I was given some very helpful advice from peers and tutors, that I was good at contouring my pieces and should have a go at using oil pastels in the future to see what I can achieve.
